Dream nursery

In case you missed it, here is the little nursery that I created as part of 6th Street Design School's dream nursery series.
I love the soft color palette and playful patterns.  Isn't it handsome?  You can read my entire description on Kirsten's blog here.

An apple a day...

Lately I've been loving simple, & cheery fruit art prints particularly the oversized, delicious artwork of Enzo Mari.  His prints are playful, interesting, and definitely make a BIG statement in any room.

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!  While I was out shopping, I came across this fabulous find...

West Elm's Terracotta table lamp $199

Target's Desert table lamp $49.99

Now that is saving some serious clams!

Fashion face-off

As I was browsing through the latest J Crew catalog,  I came across this darling little polka dot sweater.  Ah, love.

A few days later I was in Old Navy, and to my surprise found this perfect match (and for a whole lot less).

I bought one in this camel color for $16 in the store

What do you think?  Aren't they identical twins?  Yes, one is cashmere, but I think for the price, you can't beat the Old Navy sweater!

Today is your birthday, shout hooray!

me and my mama circa 1977

Today for me is both a day of reflection & celebration.  I reflect upon the great loss our country suffered 11 years ago, but I also have great reason to celebrate.  Today is my beautiful mother's birthday.  She is the absolute heart & soul of our family.  As a single mother, she managed to work full time, raise three small children, & put herself through college at the University of Utah.  I am grateful for the countless hours she dedicated to helping me with homework, nursing me back to health when I was sick, listening to hours of arguing in the car during long summer road trips, attending numerous dance & piano recitals, teaching me how to whistle & snap my fingers, but most of all I am grateful for her example to me and my little family of courage, faith, strength, service, & integrity.  Mom, our lives are blessed because of you.  Happy birthday, we love you!

Design crush: Katie Armour

Have you seen the August issue of Matchbook magazine?  It features the super chic & lively California home of Matchbook Magazine co-founder, Katie Armour.

A self described "City mouse meets country mouse", Katie's home is young, fresh, and infused with plenty of vibrant color.  It's plain to see, Katie is fearless.

Her living room's eclectic mix of gingham & leopard prints along with the soft lavender walls keeps the room playful & exciting.

I'm certain her collection of coffee table books were picked up at flea markets from around the world.  Don't you?

I love the way Katie hung her artwork above the gingham screen to balance the height of the draperies on the opposite wall.  So smart.

Lovely little details from the pop of red coral to the abstract artwork on top.

And can you believe Katie was brave enough to chop off all of her hair just weeks before her wedding?  She rocks that pixie cut!

The inspiration in her corner workspace spills over the borders of the corkboard onto the walls and floor.

Her bedroom is classic country mouse, don't you think?

I love the use of personal items for display.  They give a sense of history and personality to a room.  Don't you love how Katie displayed her collection of jewelery?

I wish I was brave enough to go this bold.

So, what do you think of Katie's home?  What is your favorite room?
