Every now and then I come across a home that is able to evoke true emotion. You know the ones where you can smell the fresh air and feel the breeze blowing through your hair? Well when I came across this lovely California home in
House Beautiful designed by the talented
Erin Martin, it did just that. I was instantly transported to the California coast where I could hear the rhythmic sounds of the ocean, and feel the sand between my toes. Just one look, and you'll know why.
The living room boats beautiful bright white cathedral ceilings and elegant traditional furnishings. The ceiling beams, and 30-inch buoy lights hung from nautical rope help bring the eye down, creating a canopy of sorts in the room.
The fireplace detail was inspired by sculptor Louise Nevelson, and is composed of pieces of scrap wood from local woodworking shops, and the renovation itself. It was brought to life by Althea Patton.
I love the salvaged window used to frame in these pieces of nautical artwork. It brings a sense of history to the space.
The lower level was transformed into a family room with cozy furnishings, and metal fireplace. A pair of industrial baskets from
Aurora Mills Architectural Salvage were turned upside down and used as coffee tables.
Mirrored closet doors create the feeling of more space.
This unique white lacquered root console table from Erin Martin Design brings a bit of the outside in, and I love it.
The bunkroom was designed to resemble a ships cabin. Grommet curtain details give the feel of bubbles.
Love the beautiful patina of the porthole mirror and rainfall shower head by
waterworks
The bunkroom bath is fitted with lockers for guests and family, double
brockway sinks from Kohler with brass fittings, and two-tone wall stripes in both flat and high gloss that mimic the towels. I have a slight obsession with these sinks. I blogged about them
here. They're still on my dream list.
In the kitchen, an antique
chambers range sits beneath a window, and the breakfast bar is covered in blackboard paint. The ceiling lights are from Gemini lighting.
The refrigerator was custom made to resemble a vintage icebox.
In the dining room, Shaw ceiling lights hang over an antique trestle table paired with antique captain's chairs. The window seat creates a relaxed, comfortable feel.
The kitchen is carried out onto the patio creating a coastal cafe of sorts with Tolix stools from
Design Within Reach.
This vintage map cleverly conceals a TV behind it.
Patio dining with ocean views. I could eat here for every meal.
