Mantelscape monday

Welcome to my newest series, mantelscape monday's!  Each week I will be featuring mantels that highlight varying styles of design,  and give you tips on how to achieve the same look for your home.

Today's mantelscapes are examples of classic, traditional design.  They are symmetrically balanced, having an equal distribution of visual weight on either side. Large scale pieces are centered between smaller objects, creating a focal point.

Creating this traditional mantelscape is very simple, and can be achieved with just a few easy steps:
  1. Select and center a large scale piece.  A mirror or an art piece both work really well.
  2. Place objects of equal visual weight on either end to create both balance and symmetry.
  3. Layer in photos and accessories to add depth and visual interest.
  4. Practice, practice, practice.
Rearrange your mantelscape as often as you like.  It's all about having fun and being creative.
